Returning to the workforce
Returning to the workforce… new career?
For many of you, returning to the workforce will be met with mixed emotions, it may have been some time since you were in a work place.
As you commence your new employment your life will be different, you have the opportunity to be more financial and be seen as an employee and someone other than the person who gave so much time to their family.
You may also find something in common with the below statements.
- With all the long hours, arriving home late and getting up early the next morning I feel so drained.
- All of a sudden, there are not enough hours in a day, when will I get time to do the house hold duties that I used to do?
- Work has changed so much since I was last employed and I’m scarred I can’t cope.
- All I seem to do, is the boring duties such as collecting the mail, making coffee and answering the phone, I know I have more skills than this.
- Most of the staff are younger than me, some are younger than my children, I feel so old and inexperienced.
- My boss doesn’t understand that I’m a mother first, then an employee and I feel torn between work and family.
If you have experience just one of these statements, then you will also realize that you are not alone! It is very normal to feel like this when returning to the workforce. Just remember that there is always someone to talk to, it could be a family member, a friend or even your boss.
