Cold calling
Cold calling and canvassing employers:

There are so many new and exciting possibilities for jobs; these are always changing to meet employer demands and keeping up with a fast moving world of work.
You could visit, telephone or write to an employer even though you have not heard about a specific job vacancy.
Looking up Yellow pages for businesses and companies that could require your services is a good place to start.
News papers, community flyers and school notices are also ways of identifying possible new businesses and employment opportunities.
Talk to friends, family members and their friends to let them know you are looking for new employment. You just never know who might know of a position or who will remember you when one becomes vacant in the near future.
Keep your eyes and ears open for opportunities as they could present themselves in unusual ways.
You need to be organised, prepared and determined to approach your job hunting with enthusiasm and confidence. Have all your paper work updated and in order, have an action plan for how you are going to approach employers and most of all keep a positive frame of mind towards your job searching.
Set realistic time frames to how you will approach the employers and complete your cold calling; will you be cold calling or warming the employer up first?

Your network is your Networth
