Answering interview questions:
Attending an interview can be a daunting process for most people, no matter how old you are or how many times you have been for an interview, you still need to prepare for answering interview questions.
You need to be prepared:
What are your strengths / weaknesses?
Identifying you strengths and weaknesses before your interview so you are able to clearly state them starting with the strengths reassuring the interviewer your willingness to overcome anything negative and learn new things when the question is asked:
Why did you apply for the position?
You would not have applied for the position unless you thought you could do the work; so answering questions in a positive way remembering that you do not speak negative of your previous employer. (It is possible they may know each other)
Can you tell us about yourself?
Well of cause you can; let the employer know what you have been doing as a job, and some of you interests outside of work. They are trying to see if you will fit into their company and be part of their team so you need to have done you research to show you know what they are looking for.
Describe your experience in relation to the position.
Now is the time to really sell those points that you have researched, let them know you experience relevant to the position and even give examples of work you have done.
Do you have any career plans?
It’s always a good idea to have some sort of career goal, it could be big or small and the fact that you have taken the time to think about career goals is a good step.
Are you interested in extra training?
If you are then let them know, it may be something that can be agreed on when you take the position.
What sort of salary are you looking for?
You would have researched the position and its salary range, matched that against your requirements and ability, and decided on a figure that you’re happy with – suggest a figure that you would need, in order to be enticed to take the position. Be careful not to under sell yourself!
Why do you think we should employ you?
Emphasise your experience, knowledge and abilities to do the job. Go over your resume with them to show you’re confident and willingness to do the work.
